Treatment Philosophy
I believe that therapy works best as a collaborative process meaning that I will work with you to customize your treatment goals to meet your individual needs. I am a narrative therapist meaning that I believe that the stories we tell and hear about ourselves impact the way we view ourselves and the world around us. The goal of therapy is to rewrite these stories from a strengths based perspective to allow us to see the best versions of ourselves. I am also a systemic therapist meaning that I place value on the the many systems in our lives (ie. schools, family, child welfare, juvenile justice etc.) and the impact they have on us. I believe that the best treatment involves working with these systems to best support the client.
As a therapist I bring my authentic self to every session. I believe that the best work can be done only when there is a genuine connection between the client and the therapist. With that being said I am very direct and won’t shy away from challenging the thoughts, feelings, and beliefs that have been inhibiting the client’s growth. I often use humor in my work as I find that laughter has healing power that can make a positive impact on the treatment process.
